Dish Network is owned by the EchoStar Company. They began providing their own satellite tv services on December 28, 1995. This was the same year that EchoStar established the Dish Network brand name and launched their first satellite, EchoStar I.

On September 10, 1996 they launched their second satellite and named it EchoStar II. The following 5 years saw the Dish Network grow by obtaining some additional orbital slots and launching six additional satellites under the Echostar name. These days they have 9 satellites in orbit that they use in order to provide their satellite tv services.

The Dish Network satellite tv services utilize a 20-inch dish for their systems. It has been named the Dish 500. This dish allows viewers to receive their satellite tv signals from two satellite locations in at the same time. This makes the Dish Network satellite services even more fulfilling.
