The Difference Between Dish Network and Directv®

If you were to try to describe the differences between Dish Network and Directv® in just a few sentences then what would you say? If you had extensive experience with both of these satellite TV services then you would probably say that the biggest difference is in the monthly programming costs.

They say that you get what you pay for and with the satellite TV providers this is somewhat true. You can get a cheaper programming package from Dish Network but it will come with a few less channels than the entry level programming package that Directv® offers. The more you are willing to pay, the more channels you can get.

Dish Network and Directv® both have similar offers. The basic offer for new subscribers is a free satellite dish and free installation. You get a free receiver and free remote control for up to four rooms in your home. Both of these satellite TV providers offer some sort of bonus from time to time. These bonuses are not usually worth comparing because they tend to match each other’s offers. The current bonus offer, at the time of this writing, is for a free DVR upgrade. You can get that from either provider.

Both of these satellite TV providers offer the ability for you to get your local channels for a small monthly fee. At the time of writing the fee was $5 per month for Dish Network and $3 per month for Directv®.

For many people, sports programming is an important option when they look at their satellite TV options. For an additional cost, both Directv® and Dish Network offer premium sports packages for professional football, baseball, basketball and other sports. The only exception to this is the fact that Directv® has the market covered when it comes to professional football. In general, Directv offers more sports programming options than Dish Network. Dish Network specializes in international programming and cheaper prices.

Choosing Dish Network or Directv® should not have to be a decision that weighs heavy on your heart. Either of these satellite TV providers would be a good choice and would most likely be an improvement over the cable television that is offered in your area, if at all. If you are a big sports fan then you may want to choose Directv® but if you are on a tight budget, you might want to choose Dish Network because their sports programming is pretty good as well. Take a look at the programming packages that are available from each of these satellite TV providers and choose the service that has a package which includes all of the channels that you watch the most.
